Azerbaijan and Serbia Strengthen Economic and Energy Ties

Baku: Sahil Babayev, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia, met with Dubravka edovic Handanovic, Serbia's Minister of Mining and Energy, during her visit to Azerbaijan. The Ministry reported the discussions centered on bilateral cooperation, focusing on the energy sector's current state and future prospects.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Sahil Babayev highlighted that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Serbia is rooted in a strategic partnership. He emphasized the strong legal framework and high-level political dialogue that have facilitated successful cooperation. He mentioned that numerous agreements, alongside the activities of both the Intergovernmental Commission and the Strategic Partnership Council, provide a stable foundation for further expanding these ties.

Discussing specific achievements, Babayev pointed out the delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia through the Bulgaria-Serbia interconnector, which began in 2023. This initiative is considered a significant milestone, and the agreement for gas delivery has been extended until the end of 2026, with supplies continuing as planned.

Minister Dubravka edovic expressed the importance of enhancing efficient and mutually beneficial energy cooperation. She highlighted an agreement signed in February 2026, which includes constructing a gas turbine power plant in Serbia, aimed at bolstering regional energy security.

The meeting also covered discussions on extending collaboration in various energy domains, including oil, petroleum products, electricity, and renewable energy sources, reinforcing the commitment to diversify and strengthen the partnership.
