Azerbaijan Discovers Mass Graves from First Garabagh War


Shusha: Azerbaijan has uncovered more than 2 individuals in each of 23 mass graves, according to the Working Group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The first of these graves was revealed on February 17, 2021, in the Dashalti settlement of the Shusha district, where the remains of 28 people were exhumed from two graves.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Deputy Head of the Working Group, Eldar Samadov, stated that 14 missing martyrs were identified from the remains found in the Dashalti settlement. These individuals were Azerbaijani servicemen who lost their lives in the battle for the Dashalti settlement on January 26, 1992.



Samadov further detailed that 21 additional mass graves were discovered and excavated in liberated territories, with remains of 187 people missing from the First Garabagh War being recovered from the 23 mass graves. From these remains, 59 missing martyrs have been identified and returned to their families.



In each of the 23 mass graves discovered, human remains of more than two people were found. Specifically, the graves included 28 people from Dashalti in the Shusha district, 27 from Edilli in the Khojavand district, 18 from a mass grave in Khojaly city, and 15 from Sirkhavand village in the Aghdara region, according to Samadov.
