Azerbaijan’s Center of Analysis of International Relations Publishes Report on Strategic Implications of Zangezur Corridor

Baku: Azerbaijan's Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) has released a comprehensive report titled 'TRIPP - Zangezur Corridor: Strategic link for trade, transit, and regional growth,' as disclosed by the AIR Center to AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the report, supervised by AIR Center Chairman Farid Shafiyev, is a collaborative effort involving the Center's experts and students from ADA University. This research explores TRIPP's impact on regional connectivity and the balance of power in the South Caucasus, utilizing document analysis, expert interviews, and academic insights on the geopolitics of transport corridors.

The study addresses three core questions: the economic significance of TRIPP for involved countries and the broader Middle Corridor, the corridor's influence on regional power dynamics and geopolitical alignments, and the political, legal, and technical challenges preventing its implementation along with potential solutions.

The analysis highlights TRIPP's strategic importance across several dimensions. Economically, it is poised to enhance trade efficiency, lower transportation costs, and integrate Central Asian economies into global markets by providing shorter routes to Europe. For Azerbaijan and Armenia, the joint development of infrastructure represents a chance for confidence-building and interdependence, potentially reinforcing peace normalization. The corridor benefits various regional players: Armenia gains transit revenues and market access, Azerbaijan bolsters its status as a transport hub, while Russia and Iran maintain roles in complementary connectivity networks.
