Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Charts Course for Green Energy Projects

Nakhchivan: A roadmap for the development and implementation of green energy projects is underway in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, according to Maharram Abbasov, the Deputy Head of the State Energy Service and Acting Head. The initiative is part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to enhance its investment in renewable and alternative energy sources.

According to Trend News Agency, Azerbaijan has a successful track record of attracting foreign investment, particularly in the energy sector. Abbasov highlighted that the country has accumulated considerable experience in collaborating with international companies since the signing of the “Contract of the Century” thirty years ago, which involved thirteen companies from eight different nations. This contract represents Azerbaijan’s largest business-to-government model, and many of these foreign companies continue to operate in the region today. Currently, Nakhchivan is engaging with international energy corporations such as Total Energies, Czech Engineering,
Nobel Energy, Masdar, ACWA Power, China Energy, and Notus to advance its green energy agenda, with a roadmap being developed to guide these efforts.

The roadmap’s development marks a significant step towards integrating renewable energy sources in Nakhchivan and aligns with Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The involvement of major international energy firms underscores the region’s potential to become a hub for green energy initiatives.
