Davos: As part of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, a panel session titled 'Defining Eurasia's Economic Identity' was held. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the event.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the session was moderated by Sasha Vakulina, Euronews' Europe Correspondent. The panel discussed the evolving economic identity of Eurasia amidst the shifting balance of influence and power in the region. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the historical significance of the peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia, signed in August, which marked an end to over three decades of conflict. He highlighted the rapid transition from conflict to cooperation, evidenced by the transportation of oil products from Azerbaijan to Armenia, which has already led to a decrease in prices.
The Armenian President, Vahagn Khachaturyan, echoed Aliyev's sentiments, stressing the importance of peace and the political will demonstrated by both countries' leaders. He expressed optimism about future cooperation, including the possibility of direct cargo routes and joint economic projects. Khachaturyan thanked President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani leadership for their commitment to peace and noted the potential for improved relations in the South Caucasus, benefiting the global community.
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, contributed by discussing the role of the Caucasus as a bridge between Europe and Asia and the importance of cooperation for regional stability. Ebru zdemir, Chairperson of the Board of Limak Holding, highlighted that investment is contingent on long-term stability and peace, pointing to the positive developments between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a promising sign for future investments.
President Aliyev further commented on the limitations of international institutions in resolving conflicts, stating that Azerbaijan's independent actions were crucial in restoring peace. He emphasized the importance of strategic vision and dedication to national interests, advocating for a proactive approach to achieving stability and cooperation.
The panel session underscored the transformative impact of the peace agreement and the potential for economic growth and regional integration in the South Caucasus. The leaders' discussions highlighted the importance of political determination and strategic cooperation in shaping Eurasia's economic landscape amidst global challenges.
