Kazakhstan to Release Final Report on AZAL Plane Crash Investigation


Aktau: The final report on the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines’ civilian aircraft near Aktau will be made public following the completion of the investigation, as confirmed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport to RIA Novosti, reported APA’s Moscow bureau.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ongoing investigation is being conducted in line with the standards and recommended practices outlined in Annex 13 of the Chicago Convention. A statement from the Ministry of Transport emphasized that the final report will be released after the comprehensive investigation is completed.



The Kazakh Ministry of Transport also disclosed that the field phase of the investigation has been concluded, and an initial report on the incident was published on February 4, 2024. The crash, which occurred on December 25, 2024, involved a plane en route from Baku to Grozny that went down near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The preliminary findings indicated that the aircraft lost control and crashed due to damage inflicted by ground fire near Grozny. The Russian authorities have also established an investigation team, though the outcomes of their inquiry remain undisclosed.



The tragic incident saw 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board, with 29 survivors. Following the crash, President Ilham Aliyev honored the courage of the crew members. Two pilots and one flight attendant received the posthumous title of National Hero of Azerbaijan, while two other flight attendants were awarded the “Rashadat” Order for their bravery.
