Aktau: The final report on the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines civilian aircraft near Aktau will be published once the investigation concludes, as confirmed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport to RIA Novosti, according to APA’s Moscow bureau.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the investigation is being conducted in line with the standards and recommended practices outlined in Annex 13 of the Chicago Convention. The Kazakh Ministry of Transport stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the final report will be released upon its conclusion.
The Kazakh Ministry of Transport also noted that the field phase of the investigation has been completed, with an initial report on the plane crash published on February 4, 2024. The unfortunate incident occurred on December 25, 2024, when the plane, traveling from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau. The initial report indicated that the plane lost control and crashed due to damage from gunfire near Grozny. Additionally, the Russian authorities have formed an investigation group, though their findings have not yet been disclosed.
Out of the 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board, 29 people survived the crash. In recognition of their bravery, President Ilham Aliyev posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan to two pilots and one flight attendant. Furthermore, two flight attendants received the “Rashadat” Order for their courageous actions during the tragedy.
