Volume of Gas Produced from Absheron Field Reaches 2.6 Billion Cubic Meters

Baku: Since the commissioning of the “Absheron” gas-condensate field located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas have been produced as of April 1, 2025.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, SOCAR’s data indicates that 1.01 million tons of gas condensate were extracted from the field during the reporting period.

In 2009, an agreement was signed between SOCAR and France’s TotalEnergies on the “Exploration, Development, and Production Sharing of the Absheron Offshore Block in the Azerbaijani Sector of the Caspian Sea.” On August 4, 2023, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) joined the “Absheron” project, resulting in a shareholder distribution of 35% for both SOCAR and TotalEnergies, and 30% for ADNOC.

The field’s development, covering a contract area of 747 km², is managed by the project’s joint operator, JOCAP company. The drilling process began on January 14, 2011, using the Heydar Aliyev semi-submersible drilling rig, and the “Absheron” field was officially discovered on September 9, 2011. Drilling at the ABD-001 production and appraisal well reached a depth of 7,411 meters by 2019.

In September 2020, a groundbreaking ceremony for offshore operations was held at SOCAR’s Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Plant. Production began at the “Absheron” gas-condensate field on July 3, 2023, with a daily output of 4.2 million cubic meters of gas and 1,200 tons of condensate.
